About Maksamaa archipelago

Maksamaa archipelago consists of several islands of different sizes.

The archipelago of many islands

Maksamaa archipelago consists of several islands of different sizes. The islands are connected by small bridges. The permanent population today lives on the biggest islands. Here villages have taken shape. Today one talks about the villages Djupsund, Teugmo, Kvimo, Lövsund, Brudsund, Särkimo, Västerö and Österö. In the outer archipelago there is Mikkelinsaaret. Here there is no longer any permanent population.

There are good connections to the archipelago. Bridges to the mainland are located both in Hellnäs to Kaitsor and at Öjskatan to Maksamaa mainland. Österövägen connects all the villages to each other. In 2019 there were around 450 inhabitants in the archipelago. In the summer the population increases several fold, since there are many holiday homes in the area. There are approximately 1100 holiday homes.
